on labor day

This Labor Day I ...

... slept in until 8am!  I feel like a small child for that.  I distinctly remember the day I slept until 7am and was so proud of myself for sleeping so late that it was all I could do to not go wake up my parents and let them know.

... wore my slippers for the first time.

... had a lazy breakfast.

... went rock climbing with my husband for the first time since we've been married.  Sore arms?  Yes.  But very happy hearts.

... tried to take in the beautiful (fall?  too soon?) day as much as possible.

... spent hours in the kitchen, with Grady of course!  Homemade lunch, homemade dinner, homemade little breads, stock, preserved beans, and much more.  And somehow we stayed on top of the messy dishes.  Truly remarkable  :-)

... had my first apple crisp of the (coming) season.  Yum!

... made our last, delicious, spearmint ice cream of the (departing) season.

... used the dinning room floor for swing dancing practice.

... said a little 'good-bye' as we move a bit further from the sun.  Well actually, according to Wikipedia and the science classes I vaguely remember, we're getting closer to the sun but tilting away from it.  In any case, it's getting darker and colder, which feels like going away from the sun.

... realized for maybe the first time in my life, I feel like I can celebrate the change towards darkness and cold.  It's not here yet and I'm not quite finished with warm weather, but I have lived my summer well and am ready to light a few more candles and do a bit more knitting.

  1. What a fun labor day Courtney! You have given me a craving to make bread... except I don't know how to make bread :) But you've given me the urge! You have a beautiful blog and I'm enjoying reading it alot
